Midwest Living
January/February 2009
We haven't seen many B&Bs quite like the Stone Giraffe in Hermann. Missouri (80 miles west of St. Louis). Eddie LaBoube and Sharon Havis opened the five-bedroom inn last year, dubbing it "an uncommon guesthouse." That's a pretty bold claim, especially in B&B-rich wine country, but the Stone Giraffe backs it up. The 1940s bungalow polished, yet comfortable, with soaring ceilings, tasteful furniture, rustic stonework and a wine fridge. The owners live on-site but give guests their privacy. (For breakfast, quiche and muffins appear overnight in the gourmet kitchen.) That hands-off spirit might not suit everyone, but is sure feels nice to just sit and sip a quiet cup of coffee and watch the morning mist rise above the Missouri River.
